Concept

The equivalent resistance when two resistances are connected in parallel is:

\(R={R_1R_2\over R_1+R_2}\)

When two branches are connected in parallel, a current is to be found in any one of the branches the current divider rule is used.

qImage657c4a26ee4f91c3e6003994

\(I_1=I\times {R_2\over R_1+R_2}\)

\(I_2=I\times {R_1\over R_1+R_2}\)

Calculation

3Ω and 7Ω are connected in parallel.

\(R={3\times 7\over 3+7}=2.1Ω \)

The current in the circuit is given by:

\(I={82\over 2+2.1}=20A\)

The current through 7Ω resistance is:

\(I_{7\Omega}=20\times {3\over 3+7}\)

\(I_{7\Omega}=6\space A\)
