tan θ = Perpendicular/Base

Calculation:

Let the height of the tree be x

⇒ Length of the shadow of three = x

From the following figure,

AB is the height of the tree and BC is shadow of the tree.

⇒ AB = x and BC = x

tan C = AB/BC

⇒ tan C = x/x

⇒ tan C = 1

⇒ tan C = tan45°

⇒ C = 45°

∴ The angle of elevation of the sun 45°.
