Capacitance

Capacitance is the property of a capacitor to store energy in the form of an electric field between two conducting plates.

The amount of charge stored by the capacitor depends upon the applied voltage.

Q α V

Q = CV

where, Q = Charge stored

C = Capacitance

V = Voltage

Explanation

The capacitance is given by:

\(C={ϵ A\over d}\)

where, ϵ = Permittivity of the material

A = Area of the plates

d = Distance between the plates

Hence, the capacitance does not depend upon the amount of charge.
