Key Points‘Shivsamudram’ ​hydroelectric power station 

• The hydroelectric power station at Shivanasamudram was established in 1902 to supply power to the Kolar gold mines.
• The credit for the successful generation of hydroelectric power for the first time in India goes to Karnataka.
• Shivanasamudra is a waterfall in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka.
• Shivanasamudra is situated along the river Kaveri, which forms here the boundary to the Mandya district and  Chamarajanagar district.
• It is also Asia's first successful Hydroelectric power plant.
• There is a great opportunity for the generation of hydel power in Karnataka.

Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant

• Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant is located in Tamil Nadu.
• Kalpakkam atomic power station in India is completely built indigenously.
• It has several units with a total capacity of 2,880 MW and is operated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
