Hoop stress for a cylindrical vessel \({{\sigma }_{h}}=\frac{PD}{2t}\)

Axial stress for a cylindrical vessel \({{\sigma }_{L}}=~\frac{PD}{4t}\)

Where P = Internal pressure, D = Internal Diameter, t = thickness

Calculation:

Given, P = 1.2 MPa, D = 1.5 mm = 1500 mm, t = 1.5 cm 15 mm

Hoop stress \({{\sigma }_{h}}=\frac{PD}{2t}=\frac{1.2\times 1500}{2\times 15}=60~MPa\)

longitudinal stress \({{\sigma }_{l}}=\frac{PD}{4t}=\frac{1.2\times 1500}{4\times 15}=30~MPa\)
