Who was Kautilya?

Chanakya was a teacher, philosopher, economist, jurist, and royal counsellor in ancient India.

• He is popularly referred to as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, the author of the Arthashastra, an ancient Indian political treatise that dates from the 4th century BCE to the 3rd century CE.
• He is regarded as India's political science and economics pioneer, and his work is regarded as an essential forerunner to classical economics.
• Chanakya aided Chandragupta, the first Mauryan emperor, in his climb to power. He is usually recognized as being a key figure in the creation of the Maurya Empire.
• Both Chandragupta and his son Bindusara had Chanakya as their principal counsel.
• Kautilya (Chanakya), the famed author of the Arthasastra, was the Prime Minister of the Mauryan Empire's (326–200 b.c.e.) emperor Chandragupta (r. 326–301 b.c.e.).
