Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFWhen three unequal resistances connected in parallel:
- The voltage across each branch is the same
- Reciprocal of the net resistance of the entire circuit equals the sum of reciprocals of the individual resistances.
- The sum of the branch currents is equal to the total current supplied by the battery
Example: From the current division rule,
\({I_1} = \frac{{I{R_2}}}{{{R_1} + {R_2}}} = 16 \times \left( {\frac{{12}}{{20}}} \right) = 9.6\;A\)
\({I_2} = \frac{{I{R_1}}}{{{R_1} + {R_2}}} = 16 \times \left( {\frac{8}{{20}}} \right) = 6.4\;A\)
Current in each branch is not equal
