  • Rajaji Formula (1944):
    • In order to solve the political deadlock between INC and Muslim league, C. Rajagopalachari prepared a plan in 1944 known as Rajaji formula.
    • Features of this plan are:
      • A post war commission would be formed to demarcate contiguous/adjacent districts where muslims were living in absolute majority and there a plebiscite of the adult population would decide whether they would prefer Pakistan.
      • In case of partition, certain essential services like defence or communication would be jointly administered.
      • The border districts would be given a chance to join either of the two nations.
      • The formula would be implemented only after the transfer of power by British and their departure from India.
    • This plan was ended in failure as muslim league rejected the proposals in this plan as they want INC to accept Two Nation Theory.
