Communication is the act of giving, receiving, and sharing information -- in other words, talking or writing, and listening or reading.

Key Points

Verbal Communication encompasses all communication using spoken words, or unspoken words as in the case of sign language.

Nonverbal Communication is what is actually being said.
- The tone, facial expressions, body language, hand movements, and eye contact.
- Nonverbal communication, including but not limited to body language, has a significant often subconscious influence on most in-person interactions.
- The way one sits or stands hand gestures, and tone of voice all carry a message about your attitude and emotions.

Hence we can say that nonverbal communication is subconscious.
