Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven
Mixture of 60 litres, ratio of milk and water = 2 ∶ 3
The desired ratio of milk and water = 1 ∶ 2
Concept:
We should find out the amount of water to be added to change the ratio of milk and water from 2 ∶ 3 to 1 ∶ 2.
Calculation:
In the mixture, quantity of milk = (2/5) × 60 = 24 litres
⇒ For the milk and water to be in the ratio 1 ∶ 2,
⇒ Amount of water needed = 2 × quantity of milk
= 2 × 24 = 48 litres
⇒ Amount of water to be added = 48 - (60 - 24) = 12 litres
Therefore, 12 litres of water must be added to make the ratio of milk and water 1 ∶ 2.
