Question
Download Solution PDFDetermine True or False for the following statements.
1. The superposition theorem can be applied to electrical power calculations.
2. Norton's resistance is always twice the Thevenin's resistance.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)

Concept:
Superposition Theorem
The superposition theorem states that in any linear, bilateral network where more than one source is present, the response across any element in the circuit is the sum of the responses obtained from each source considered separately.
Limitations of superposition theorem
- It cannot be used to calculate power in a circuit. It is only valid for the calculation of voltage and current.
- It is not applicable for non-linear elements such as a diode, BJT, or OP-AMP because their VI characteristics are non-linear in nature.
Statement 2:
The equivalent resistances in both Norton's and Thevenin's theorems are identical. That is Norton resistance = Thevenin resistance. They represent the same equivalent resistance seen by the load in two different equivalent circuits.
