Question
Download Solution PDFConsidering load resistance RL = 5 kΩ, calculate Thevenin's resistance of the circuit shown above.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFThevenin Theorem
Thevenin’s theorem states that it is possible to simplify any linear circuit, into an equivalent circuit with a single voltage source and a series resistance.
Steps to calculate:
- Thevenin Resistance (Rth): Open the circuit to the terminal from which the Thevenin resistance must be found. While finding the Rth, short circuit the independent voltage source and open circuit the independent current source.
- Thevenin Voltage (Vth): This is the open-circuit voltage across the terminals where the load was connected.
Calculation
Short circuit 48V and open 5kΩ.
Now, 12kΩ and 4kΩ are in parallel.
\(R={12\times 4\over 12+4}=3k\Omega\)
This 3kΩ is in series 8kΩ.
Rth = 3kΩ + 8kΩ
Rth = 11kΩ
