Question
Download Solution PDFA cylindrical candle, 14 cm in diameter and length 2 cm is melted to form a cuboid candle of dimensions 7 cm × 11 cm × 2 cm. How many cuboidal candles can be obtained?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Diameter of cylindrical candle = 14 cm
Height of cylindrical candle = 2 cm
Dimensions of cuboid candle = 7 cm × 11 cm × 2 cm
Formula used:
Volume of cylinder = πr2h
Volume of cuboid = l × b × h
Number of cuboidal candles = Volume of cylinder / Volume of cuboid
Calculations:
Radius of cylinder (r) = 14 ÷ 2 = 7 cm
Volume of cylinder = π × 72 × 2 = 22/7 × 49 × 2 = 308 cm3
Volume of cuboid = 7 × 11 × 2 = 154 cm3
⇒ Number of cuboidal candles = 308 ÷ 154
⇒ Number of cuboidal candles = 2
∴ 2 cuboidal candles can be obtained.
