Question
Download Solution PDFTransmission line of the driving gate is represented by load equal to characteristic impedence of the line Z0. What is the behaviour of following transmission line circuit when a pulse is applied to the transmission line?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
The reflection coefficient describes how much of a wave is reflected by an impedance discontinuity. The reflection coefficient at the load end of the transmission line with characteristic impedance Z0 and load impedance ZL is given by
\(Γ = {Z_L-Z_0 \over Z_L + Z_0}\)
Analysis:
For an open-circuit transmission line, ZL = ∞ (infinite). Hence,
\(Γ = {1-{Z_0 \over Z_L} \over 1 + {Z_0 \over Z_L}} = 1\)
For the reflection coefficient Γ = 1, all of the incident wave is reflected back towards the source.
