u[n] – u[n - 1] = δ[n]
y[n] = x[n] – x[n - 1]
For ramp input, x[n] = n u [n]
y[n] = n u [n] – (n - 1) u [n – 1]
= n u [n] – n u [n – 1] + u [n – 1]
= n [u[n] – u[n - 1]] + u [n - 1]
= n δ[n] + u [n - 1]
= 0 + u [n - 1]
⇒ y [n] = u [n - 1]
∴ The system response y[n] = u [n - 1]
