Faraday Law of Electromagnetic Induction

The induced EMF in a transformer is given by Faraday's Law of electromagnetic induction.  It states that the magnitude of EMF induced in the coil is equal to the rate of change of flux that links with the coil.

\(E = - N{d\phi\over dt}\)

The - sign denotes the direction of induced EMF. It is given by Lenz’s law.

Lenz's Law states that the direction of induced emf will be in such a way that it will oppose the cause producing it.
