DIAC (Diode for alternating current)

qImage13119

DIAC is the bidirectional semiconductor switch that can be turned on in both forward and reverse polarities.

When the voltage between the two terminals is greater than the breakdown voltage, the DIAC conducts and the current goes in the direction from the higher voltage point to the lower voltage one.

The breakdown voltage of the forward diode is greater than the reverse diode.

The relationship between the breakdown voltage of the forward and reverse diode is:

VBR1 = VBR2 ± 0.1 VBR2
