- The IP chart or International Protection Marking (also commonly interpreted as Ingress Protection Marking) consists of the letters IP and 2 numbers. As prescribed by the CEI 6529 standard, the chart classifies the degree of protection of a product against the intrusion of two types of elements in electrical components: solid and liquid particles.
- It rates the inherent degree of ' sealing protection ' provided by the mechanical casing / electrical enclosure of a device against intrusion from foreign bodies (e.g. - fingers, tools, wires, insects, dust, etc.) and forms of water exposure (e.g. - condensation, droplets, direct spray, full submersion, etc.)
