Given:

The average score after 10 innings = 52

The average score after 12 innings = 54

The Batsman scored 16 more runs in the 12th innings than the previous innings

Formula used:

Average = Sum of observations/Number of observations

Calculation:

Let the score of batsman in 11th innings be x

Let the score of batsman in 12th innings more than the previous innings be (x + 16)

The average score after 10 innings = (52 × 10) = 520

The average score after 12 innings = (54 × 12) = 648

According to the question

⇒ (520 + x + x + 16) = 648

⇒ (536 + 2x) = 648

⇒ 2x = (648 – 536)

⇒ 2x = 112

⇒ x = (112/2)

⇒ x = 56

∴ He scored 56 runs in his 11th innings.
