Question
Download Solution PDFA man starts from point 'O' travels 20 km towards East to reach point 'A', turns right and travels 10 km to reach point 'B', turns right and travels 9 km to reach point ‘C’, turns right and travels 5 km to reach point 'D', turns left and travels 12 km to reach point ‘E’ and then turns right and travels 6 km to reach point 'F'.
What is the shortest distance between point 'E' and point 'B'?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFAccording to the given conditions :
1) A man starts from point 'O' travels 20 km towards East to reach point 'A'
2) Then turns right and travels 10 km to reach point 'B'
3) Then turns right and travels 9 km to reach point ‘C’
4) Then turns right and travels 5 km to reach point 'D'
5) Then turns left and travels 12 km to reach point ‘E’
6) then turns right and travels 6 km to reach point 'F'
Thus, according to the final arrangement, shortest distance between point 'E' and point 'B'
is calculated by pythagoras theorem :-
So, (EB)2 = (ED + DG)2 + (AB - DC)2
⇒ (EB)2 = (12 + 9)2 + (10 - 5)2
⇒ (EB)2 = (21)2 + (5)2
⇒ (EB)2 = 441 + 25
⇒ (EB)2 = 466
⇒ EB = \(\sqrt{466}\) km.
