Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A dog saw a cat at a distance of 280 m.
The cat started running at the speed of 10 km/h and the dog also ran to catch it at the speed of 24 km/h.
Concept used:
1. Time taken to meet for two objects coming towards each other = Intermediary distance ÷ Relative speed
2. Relative speed is the difference between individual speeds while two objects run in the same direction.
3. Distance = Speed × Time
4. km/h = 5/18 m/s
Calculation:
10 km/h = 25/9 m/s
24 km/h = 20/3 m/s
Now, the time taken to catch the cat by the dog
⇒ 280 ÷ (20/3 - 25/9)
⇒ 72 seconds
⇒ 72/60 = 1.2 min
∴ The dog will take 1.2 min to catch the cat.
