Question
Download Solution PDFA and B can complete a piece of work in 8 days and 16 days respectively. If A and B work on alternate days, starting with B, in how many days the work will be completed?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
A can do a job in 8 days, B can do it in 16 days.
Concept:
Work done is inversely proportional to the time taken.
Solution:
If A's 1 day's work = 1/8, and B's 1 day's work = 1/16.
A and B's 2 day's work = 1/8 + 1/16 = 3/16.
Therefore, the job will be done in (16/3) × 2 = 10.67 days or 11 days approx.
Therefore, A and B will complete the work in approximately 11 days.
