The Odisha Judicial Services exam consists of three stages as mentioned above. Each stage has a specific syllabus and exam pattern. The details are given below:

The first stage of the Odisha Judicial Services selection process is the Preliminary exam, which is an objective type exam. It consists of a single paper that is then further divided into 10 subtopics. The exam pattern followed in the Preliminary Exam is given in the table below. There is a criterion of negative marking in the preliminary exam. For every wrong answer, one-fourth marks are deducted.

The second stage of the Odisha Judicial services selection process is the Mains exam, which is subjective in nature. The exam consists of 5 papers, each of 150 marks. The first two papers are compulsory and the subjects are General English and Procedural Law. The other three papers are optional, which can be selected from 5 Subjects which are, Law of criminal & Law of torts, Persona Law, Law of Property, Law of Contract, and, Jurisprudence and Constitution of India. The candidates can go through the given exam pattern to understand the marking criteria.

Candidates clearing both the written exams are called for the interview round, carrying 100 marks. There will be document verification before the interview process. Candidates need to produce certain documents, otherwise they won't be allowed for the interview round. In this round, the candidates will be asked questions related to the topics given in the mains exam and national & international issues.
