The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM FME) is a centrally sponsored initiative. It was launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) in India under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Salient Features of the PM FME Scheme
  • The PM FME Scheme aims to enhance the competitiveness of micro food processing enterprises. It aims to promote the formalization of the sector.
  • It adopts the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to leverage the benefits of scale in terms of procurement, common services, and marketing.
  • The scheme focuses on waste-to-wealth products, minor forest products, and aspirational districts.
  • It provides a credit-linked capital subsidy of 35% of the eligible project cost, up to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh per unit, for individual/group category micro-enterprises.
  • Self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in food processing can receive seed capital of up to Rs. 40,000/- per member for working capital and purchase of small tools, subject to a maximum of Rs. 4 lakh per SHG.
  • Common infrastructure support is available through credit-linked capital subsidy of 35%, with a maximum of Rs. 3 crores. This is for setting up common infrastructure by FPOs, SHGs, cooperatives, and government agencies.
  • The scheme includes capacity-building measures such as Entrepreneurship Development Skilling (EDP) training.
