Overview of Part XIVA of the Constitution of India

Tribunals in India are quasi-judicial bodies established to resolve disputes in administration and taxation and helps to reduce the caseload on traditional courts. They provide expertise-driven, faster dispute resolution in fields such as the environment, armed forces and administrative matters. Rooted in the Roman concept of ‘Tribunes,’ tribunals act as independent forums that address grievances within their specialized areas. Inserted through the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976, the Indian Constitution includes Part XIVA with Article 323-A establishing administrative tribunals and Article 323-B allowing tribunals for other matters, thus enhancing India’s judicial efficiency.
