To set up a cooperative society, it is mandatory to have the agreement of at least 10 adult individuals. These ten individuals can voluntarily associate themselves into a society, which then needs to be registered with the Registrar of Co-operative Societies. To fund the society, capital is procured from its members through the issuance of shares. Once registered, the society becomes a separate legal entity.
