Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC):

  • Pozzolanic materials are fine particles, like fly ash, slag, etc. This results in reducing the permeability, and bleeding and reduces the percentage of bouge's compound which in turn reduces the heat of hydration.
  • When some amount of pozzolanic material is mixed with ordinary cement, then the cement is called Portland pozzolana cement (PPC).
  • It has a low heat of hydration and higher resistance against chloride and sulfate attacks, so we can use it in marine and hydraulic structures.
  • Pozzolana material alone does not show any binding property or strength, but when it reacts with lime it shows good binding properties.
  • Its short-term strength is lesser as compared to OPC cement but has higher strength in the long term.
