- The amount of heat that different types of fuels produced on burning are expressed in terms of calorific value.
- Thus Calorific value of a fuel is the amount of heat produced when 1 gm of fuel is completely burned.
- S.I. unit of calorific value of fuels is kilojoule per kilogram (kJ/kg).
- It is calculated by keeping the pressure constant and in normal temperature conditions.
- It is also called calorific power.
- For example, if burning completely one gram of wood produces 17 kilojoules of heat, therefore, the calorific value of wood will be 17 KJ/g.
