Concept:

  • The amount of heat that different types of fuels produced on burning are expressed in terms of calorific value
  • Thus Calorific value of a fuel is the amount of heat produced when 1 gm of fuel is completely burned.
  • S.I. unit of calorific value of fuels is kilojoule per kilogram (kJ/kg).
  • It is calculated by keeping the pressure constant and in normal temperature conditions.
