Question
Download Solution PDFIn a mixture of 60 litres, the ratio of milk and water is 2 : 1. What amount of water must be added to make the ratio of milk and water 1 : 2?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
The total quantity of mixture = 60 litres
The ratio of milk to water = 2 : 1
Formula:
If N is divided into a : b
First part = N × a/(a + b)
Second part = N × b/(a + b)
Calculation:
Quantity of milk in the mixture = 60 × (2/3) = 40 litres
⇒ Quantity of water in the mixture = 60 – 40 = 20 litres
Let added quantity of water be x
According to the question
40/(x + 20) = 1/2
⇒ 40 × 2 = (x + 20)
⇒ 80 = x + 20
⇒ x = 80 – 20
⇒ x = 60
∴ Added quantity of water is 60 litresLast updated on Jun 2, 2025
