Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFHysteresis loss:
- Hysteresis loss is a type of energy loss that occurs in Electrical machines due to the repeated magnetization and demagnetization of the iron core.
- Due to the flow of alternating current, the iron core gets magnetized and demagnetized in each cycle and during each cycle of magnetization, some energy is lost.
Hysteresis loss occurring in a material is,
\({W_h} = KfB_m^{η}\)
\({W_h} = \eta \times B_m^{1.6} \times f \times V\)
Where,
η is Steinmetz's constant
V is the volume of the core
f is supply frequency
Bm is the magnetic flux density
K is hysteresis co-efficient
∴ The hysteresis loss in a given magnetic material may be decreased by decreasing the maximum flux density established through it or by using magnetic material having a low hysteresis coefficient.
