घर्षण के कारण पाइप में शीर्ष नुकसान को निम्न रूप में ज्ञात किया गया है:

\(h_f = \frac {4f lV^2}{2gD}=\frac {8}{\pi ^2g}\frac {4flQ^2}{D^5} \)

जहाँ f = घर्षण गुणांक, 4f = घर्षण कारक, V = प्रवाह का औसत वेग, D = पाइप का व्यास, l = पाइप की लम्बाई 

\(V= \frac QA\)

जहाँ Q = प्रवाह दर, A = पाइप का अनुप्रस्थ क्षेत्रफल

∴ शीर्ष नुकसान ∝ V2,  शीर्ष नुकसान ∝ Q2,  शीर्ष नुकसान ∝  l,  

\(head~loss \propto \frac 1{D^5}\)

∴ \(head~loss \propto \frac {l\times Q^2}{D^5}\)

\((h_f)_1 = H =\frac {8}{\pi ^2g}\frac {4flQ^2}{D^5} \)

\((h_f)_2 =\frac {8}{\pi ^2g}\frac {4fl(2Q)^2}{(2D)^5} =\frac {8}{\pi ^2g}\frac {4flQ^2}{D^5}\times\frac {2^2}{2^5}=H\times \frac 18\)

\(\therefore (h_f)_2 = \frac H8\)

Alternate Method \(P_1 -P_2 = \frac{128\times\mu\times Q\times L}{\pi D^4}\)

\(P_1 -P_2 \propto h_f \propto \frac{Q}{D^4}\)
