• Transportation by road system is the only mode that could give maximum flexibility of service from origin to destination, to one and all various classes of vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks, two-wheeler, etc. may be permitted to make use of the roads.
• Apart from road vehicles, pedestrians also make use of the facilities of the road system.
• Road transportation has the maximum flexibility for travel with reference to choice of the route, direction time, and speed of travel.
• Road transportation is the only mode that caters for the movement of passengers and goods independently right from the place of origin up to the destination of any trip along the land. In other words, it is possible to provide door-to-door service only by road transport. Keeping all these points in mind the first priority (Preference) is given to road transport in India.

• Airlines are the fastest means of transportation but it has some limitations. It does not provide door-to-door service
• Shipping or water transport mode is mostly used to move goods and commodities from one country to another. Or in other words, it is used for the worldwide trade of goods and commodities. It provides port-to-port service only.
• Railways (Rail transportation) in the country are mostly used to transport goods and commodities and carry passengers from one place to another. It does not provide door-to-door service.
