The gauge factor is defined as the ratio of per unit change in resistance to per unit change in length. It is a measure of the sensitivity of the gauge.

Gauge factor,

Where ε = strain = ΔL/L

Therefore, if the gauge factor is known, the measurement of  allows the measurement of strain

LVDT:

  • LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) is an electromechanical transducer that can turn rectilinear motion into corresponding electric signal.
  • In LVDT the output signal is AC voltage whose magnitude changes with the linear displacement of the core within the LVDT coil.
  • The output of an LVDT is of the order of millivolt.

Therefore, both statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (II) is not the correct explanation of Statement (I)
