Given:

Total sums attempted = 48

A student got twice as many sums wrong as he got right.

Calculation:

Let the number of sums solved correctly be x.

Number of sums solved wrong = 2x

Total sums attempted = x + 2x = 48

⇒ x + 2x = 48

⇒ 3x = 48

⇒ x = 48 / 3

⇒ x = 16

The number of sums solved correctly is 16.
