Question
Download Solution PDFA product costs 6000 Rs. It is sold at a 20% loss. From the selling price, a new product is bought and sold at a 40% profit. What is the overall profit (in Rs) on the whole transaction?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFThe first product is sold at a 20% loss.
Cost Price CP = 6000 Rs
Loss = 20% of CP = 0.20 × 6000 = 1200 Rs
Selling Price SP = CP - Loss = 6000 - 1200 = 4800 Rs
The selling price of the first product 4800 Rs is used to buy the second product.
CP of the second product = 4800 Rs
The second product is sold at a 40% profit.
Profit = 40% of CP = 0.40 × 4800 = 1920 Rs
Selling Price SP = CP + Profit = 4800 + 1920 = 6720 Rs
Total CP for both transactions = 6000 Rs (first product) + 4800 Rs (second product) = 10800 Rs
Total SP for both transactions = 4800 Rs (first product) + 6720 Rs (second product) = 11520 Rs
Overall Profit = Total SP - Total CP = 11520 - 10800 = 720 Rs
The overall profit on the whole transaction is 720 Rs.
