CONCEPT:

  • Whenever a current is flowing in the wire then heat is produced in it. The phenomenon of producing heat by the electric current is called as the heating effect of electric current.
  • The amount of heat produced,

= I2 R t      ...(1)

Where I is current, R is resistance and t is the time taken

EXPLANATION:

Given: I = 1 A

  • Using equation 1,

⇒ H = I2 R t = 2000 J

  • Now new current (I’) = 2 × I = 2 A
  • Heat produced,

⇒ H’ = (2I)2 R t 

⇒ H’ = 4  × I2 R t 

 ∵  IR t = 2000 J

⇒ H’ = 4 × 2000 = 8000 J
