Given:

One puncture can flatten the tire in 9 minutes, and the second puncture can flatten the tire in 18 minutes

Formula Used:

Total Work = Efficiency × Time

Calculation:

Let the total capacity of the tire be 18 units (LCM of 9 and 18)

⇒ Efficiency of 1st puncture = 18/9 = 2 units/min

⇒ Efficiency of 1st puncture = 18/18 = 1 unit/min

Combined efficiency of both punctures = 2 + 1 = 3 units

Time required to flatten the tire by two punctures

⇒ 18/3 = 6 minutes

∴ Both punctures can flatten the tire in 6 minutes.
