Question
Download Solution PDFA car got two punctures. One can flatten the tire in 9 minutes, and the second can flatten the tire in 18 minutes. How much time will they both take together to flatten the tire?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
One puncture can flatten the tire in 9 minutes, and the second puncture can flatten the tire in 18 minutes
Formula Used:
Total Work = Efficiency × Time
Calculation:
Let the total capacity of the tire be 18 units (LCM of 9 and 18)
⇒ Efficiency of 1st puncture = 18/9 = 2 units/min
⇒ Efficiency of 1st puncture = 18/18 = 1 unit/min
Combined efficiency of both punctures = 2 + 1 = 3 units
Time required to flatten the tire by two punctures
⇒ 18/3 = 6 minutes
∴ Both punctures can flatten the tire in 6 minutes.
