Given:

Distance = 338 m

Speed of train = 60 km/hr

Time = 39 seconds

Formula used:

Speed = Distance/Time

Calculation:

Le the speed of a ma be x m/s

Speed of train = 60 km/hr 

⇒ (60 × 5/18) = 50/3 m/s

Relative speed = (50/3 – x)   [It travels in the same direction]

Now,

Speed = Distance/Time

⇒ (50/3 – x) = 338/39

⇒ (50/3 – x) × 39 = 338

⇒ 50/3 × 39 – 39x = 338

⇒ 650 – 39x = 338

⇒ 39x = (650 – 338)

⇒ 39x = 312

⇒ x = 8 m/s

∴ The required speed of the man is 8 m/s
