Apple has announced that its Senior Vice President of Operations, Sabih Khan, will succeed Jeff Williams as Chief Operating Officer. Williams, who has been serving at Apple for nearly three decades, will continue to report to CEO Tim Cook and oversee Apple’s Design team and health initiatives until his retirement later this year.
The Indian-origin executive has played a significant role in shaping and streamlining Apple’s global supply chain. Khan joined Apple’s procurement group in 1995 and rose through the ranks to become the Senior Vice President of Operations in 2019.
Over the last few years, Khan has been leading Apple’s global supply chain, overseeing planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, and product fulfilment. Beyond this, he has also overseen Apple’s supplier relations programmes, which are aimed at providing worker protection, education, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Sabih Khan’s Past Experience Before Apple
Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, western Uttar Pradesh. During his schooling, his family moved to Singapore. Years later, they emigrated to the United States.
He was named the Senior Vice President of Operations at Apple on June 27, 2019, reporting to Jeff Williams. In his role, Khan’s operations department has been responsible for establishing partnerships with green manufacturing suppliers and for adapting supply chain operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Khan’s leadership has played a critical role in developing Apple’s green manufacturing initiatives and in fostering relationships with suppliers to reduce environmental impact. His contributions have been key to ensuring Apple’s resilience in the face of global challenges, including supply chain disruptions and rising sustainability demands.
Before leading the green manufacturing initiatives at Apple, Khan worked at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and a technical leader. He has applied his expertise in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University, along with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The leadership change is expected to take Apple to new heights. Tim Cook further emphasised, “I have tremendous confidence in Apple’s future under his leadership in this role.”
