According to the reports, IBM has approximately dismissed 8000 Employees, and most of them were from the HR Department.

This significant development is made due to IBM taking a step ahead with AI and Automation to get a smoother workflow, which will be efficient and will enhance the quality of the work done. The company recently came up with a new AI tool called the AskHR system, designed to do all HR tasks. This AI system and its agents are designed in a way that it is capable of handling things like leave application, salary details, and employee document management. Some reports also say that this system can manage 94% of tasks all by itself, which in turn reduces the need for significant manpower in this HR department.

While all the people who were dismissed was definitely a number to note, IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna has said that now the overall workflow of the company is more efficient and has actually grown. He explained that due to AI and Automation, the productivity gain went up and has generated $3.5 billion output, which are in turn used and invested into hiring more productive roles like software engineering, sales and marketing. This move by IBM was a strategic reconstruction of roles to have a better workforce.

However, the shift underscores a broader trend in how AI is transforming the workplace. While AI is taking over repetitive tasks, the need for human intervention in certain HR functions still remains. IBM’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Nickle La Moreaux, emphasizes that very few roles will be entirely replaced; instead, AI will handle the routine parts, allowing employees to focus on tasks requiring human insight and decision-making.

However, this consistent shift from manpower to AI shows how the workplace is transforming day by day. With AI taking over only the repetitive tasks, the need for humans in the department is still there. IBM’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Nickle La Moreaux, emphasizes that very few roles will be entirely replaced, as AI would only handle the repetitive tasks due to which the employees can focus on more productive things

This move by IBM follows same workforce changes by other big tech companies like Google and Microsoft, highlighting a growing dependence on AI across all industries and the ever evolving nature of job roles in the digital age.
