Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former captain MS Dhoni arrived at Chennai for the upcoming IPL season. The Chennai Super Kings has posted a special video for his arrival in the camp for the IPL season that is scheduled to take place next month. In the video, a young girl is walking up to Gaikwad to give the helmet of the Chennai Super Kings to him which depicts a scene of the crowning of a king.

Gaikwad was one of the five players retained by Chennai Super Kings alongside MS Dhoni, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja. He was retained for 18 crores for the Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings have claimed the IPL title 5 times in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. Gaikwad took over as captain from MS Dhoni in 2024 when the latter stepped down. Gaikwad appeared in 16 matches for the Chennai Super Kings and has scored 635 runs with a highest score of 101*. He was thus retained by CSK for the 2022 season for 6 crores.
20 Lakhs to 18 Crores
At the IPL 2019 Player Auction, the Chennai Super Kings secured his services at his base price of 20 lacs. His journey from 20 lakhs to 18 crores has been a reason for fans to look out for. He has been their most consistent opener and will look to do the same come April and May edition of the IPL. CSK will be playing its first match against the Mumbai Indians.

Dhoni to use a lighter bat?
Former India and CSK captain MS Dhoni is set to play his 18th IPL season. He is reported to use a lighter bat according to The Indian Express. Speaking to The Indian Express, a source said, “Four bats have been delivered to Dhoni recently by Sanspareils Greenlands Pvt. Ltd., the cricket equipment company from Meerut. Each bat weighs around 1230 grams with the same shape as before.”
