IPL 2025: Glenn Maxwell’s third PBKS debut in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) proved to be one he would rather forget, as he was caught for a golden duck in the game against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, March 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Maxwell walked out to bat in the 11th over, with PBKS having made a solid start, but was dismissed on the very first ball he faced by Sai Kishore. The 36-year-old was trapped in front of the stumps while attempting a reverse sweep. After the umpire raised his finger, Maxwell had a long conversation with Shreyas Iyer but ultimately chose not to review the decision.
The TV replay stunned Maxwell as well as PBKS, as it revealed that the ball was missing the stumps. If Maxwell had reviewed the decision, he could have carried on batting.
Most Dismissal For A Duck
Maxwell’s dismissal was the 19th time he has been dismissed for a duck in the IPL, and he is the first player to achieve this somewhat unlucky record. Before this, Maxwell had shared the record for most ducks in IPL history with Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma.
Overall, Maxwell has been dismissed for a duck 35 times in T20 cricket, the fourth-highest in the format, after Sunil Narine, Rashid Khan, and Alex Hales.
Player | Ducks | Innings Played |
---|---|---|
Glenn Maxwell | 19 | 130 |
Rohit Sharma | 18 | 253 |
Dinesh Karthik | 18 | 234 |
Piyush Chawla | 16 | 92 |
Sunil Narine | 16 | 278 |
Third Tenure With PBKS
This is Maxwell’s third season with PBKS, having played for them earlier in 2014-2017 and again in 2020. He even led the team in the 2017 season when PBKS ended up 5th with seven victories and as many defeats in 14 matches. Maxwell was also declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2014 season, when PBKS reached their sole IPL final, a record that still stands as their last playoff finish.
Maxwell’s IPL career also comprises the winning of the tournament in 2013 playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) and playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018 and 2019. Following his 2020 departure from PBKS, Maxwell played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2021 until 2024.
PBKS acquired Maxwell’s services for Rs. 4.2 crore at the 2025 IPL Mega Auction organized in Jeddah last year.
