The game so finely poised at the moment. Can't say who is ahead at the moment. The day started off with Brook and Stokes and the former stroked his way to 99 before finding deep backward square-leg with a top-edge. Contributions from Jamie Smith, Woakes and Carse helped Brook as England were bowled out just 6 short of India's first-innings total. Bumrah who saw catches dropped off his bowling today too, did not let that deter him as he took his 12th fifer away from home, joining Kapil Dev in the process. So that turned the game effectively into a one-innings shootout and
Where day one was ruled by India at Headingley, all the chips fell England’s way on day two to ensure that this Test match is not in red at the end of day one. To India, day two meant coming to terms and being disappointed by what was missed. Having the advantage of 430-3 with two of the centurions (bat-in-hand) standing on the crease, yet having tottered to bag 7 wickets with only 41 runs more. Having England in the ropes with that first delivery claiming a wicket, only to waste opportunities and fail to maintain pressure, letting the runs to flow in. A local bowler bowling the most important wicket of the match on the last over of day, and then being given the no-ball. Minor, but vital, really, so that now England has only 262 to catch up on India, one of their batsmen is already a century-maker, and plenty of batting is yet to come.
All this means that England are capable of playing a very solid game in this match, irrespective of the fact that they had to face three centurians in the first innings. India had made the lowest score since 1990, when three different players had made a ton in an inning in that game. The same has been the case in India; they have had a talent ceiling that Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah, coming in with his three wickets, must have seen to it that they were competitive. A series of poor performances, especially in bowling performances by players around Bumrah, have, however, meant that they will feel bad that England is making it a contest.
On day two, Ollie Pope made a century before stumps, and Bumrah having dismissal of Joe Root also means that what would have been a very bad day for India was saved to an extent.
Stokes to Sai Sudharsan, out Caught by Crawley!! Stokes does it for England. A grimace from Sai Sudharsan as he walks off. he was loking good but has fallen to the trap on the flick. Stokes points at Crawley as if this was a well-set plan. The inswinger and full on the stumps, Sudharsan flicks and doesn't keep it down, straight and low to Crawley at mid-wicket. That drop by Duckett at backward point doesn't cost England much. And how many times does Stokes keep doing this - producing wickets out of nowhere!
Stokes to Rahul, 1 run, tight run and Rahul is in even as the throw is well wide of the stumps. A short of length delivery on the stumps, turned in front of Woakes at mid-on, he gets there but throws off-balance and Rahul realised he was in trouble, so dives full-length to make it
Josh Tongue to Rahul, 1 run, short of length just outside off, Rahul goes on the back foot and pushes it to the right of backward point for an easy single
Brydon Carse to Rahul, FOUR, beautiful. Just beautiful. Already Rahul has looked world-class and more than that in this innings. Add this shot to the beautiful list. A half-volley outside off, he gets forward and relies on timing and placement, caresses it and it runs through the vacant cover region for four, technique at its very best there
Woakes to Sai Sudharsan, no run, that's a bad shot. Pushing away from the body, full outside off, Sai Sudharsan looks to defend forward, beaten
Brydon Carse to Rahul, no run, short of length and rising just outside off, Rahul lets it go
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, out Caught by Jamie Smith!! Lovely delivery and that's the edge. The round the wicket angle helps. It's a short of length delivery that is angling into fourth-stump, then seams away, opens Jaiswal up, on the back foot defence, he can't handle that and he edges it behind. Brydon Carse and England knew Jaiswal had edged it and were celebrating. That's the early wicket England wanted. A hundred and a low score in the 2nd innings. Similar to the opening Test at the Gabba in Australia.
Brydon Carse to Jaiswal, FOUR, short at Jaiswal and he pulls nicely, got inside the line and pulls to the deep backward square-leg fence, fine-leg is very square but it was well wide of him, was in the air but in the gap
Woakes to Jaiswal, no ball
Bumrah to Josh Tongue, out Bowled!! Fifer for the incomparable Bumrah. He waves his finger at the heavens as he seems to thank someone. Siraj is out there mobbing him. Soon the entire team is near him to congratulate. He walks off ball-raised to a standing ovation. What a bowler. No words can do justice to him. This is a fine delivery, short of length and angled in to off, Josh Tongue plays down the wrong line on the back foot defence, misses, the off-stump is pegged back.
Bumrah to Woakes, out Bowled!! Knocked him over! Bumrah weaves his magic again! Full and angling into the stumps, nipped back in just a shade and went straight through the gate, Woakes was looking to push it down the ground and left a big gap between bat and pad. It went past the inside edge and the next thing Woakes heard was his stumps being rearranged. Another useful contribution for England though, it's helped them cut down the defecit.
Siraj to Brydon Carse, out Bowled!! A look of relief more than anything else on Siraj's face! Amidst all the short-bowling, it's actually the fuller one that brings the wicket. Pitched right up on off-stump, Brydon Carse had moved away very early, gave himself plenty of room, too much room in the end and he had to reach out to try and keep it out. Didn't lay a bat on it in the end and it smashed the base of off-stump. Fairly muted celebrations from India but boy did they need that. Big partnership has been broken.
Prasidh to Woakes, SIX, to deep mid-wicket
Prasidh to Brydon Carse, FOUR, streaky but it hardly matters! Good length delivery just outside off, Brydon Carse was caught in his crease and it brushed the inside edge after nipping back in, Pant had no chance
Prasidh to Brook, out Caught by Thakur!! Heartbreak for Brook! He's gone for 99! His luck runs out at the worst possible moment, he cannot believe it, he hangs his head back in agony and covers his face. Banged in short on middle, Brook took it on but wasn't in control.
Bumrah to Brook, 1 run, dropped by Jaiswal at gully. India keep dropping catches. Bumrah closes his eyes with his hands as he soaks in the disappointment. A short of length delivery outside off, poor shot from Brook, in fact a nothing one, like Root yesterday, dabs and gives Jaiswal catching practice, went quickly but at a good heigh, he shells it. The slip cordon watches on helplessly. That should have been taken. Yesterday India dropped 3 catches off Bumrah, today one more off Bumrah
Siraj to Brook, 1 run, again words from Siraj and a stare as Brook runs past him. Brook steers it through the vacant point region for one. Siraj now wants to have a piece of Brook and gets going with words
Bumrah to Woakes, byes, FOUR, that has flown from a spot and gives Pant no chance. Definitely hit a crack or something there, on a length well outside off, Woakes misses the drive and it jumps from that awkward spot, Pant leaps with an outstretched right hand to his right but the ball eludes him
Prasidh to Jamie Smith, out Caught by Sai Sudharsan!! Good work by Jadeja at deep mid-wicket and Sai backs him up to complete the job.
Prasidh to Jamie Smith, FOUR, short outside off, sits up though
Bumrah to Jamie Smith, FOUR, crunchy off the front foot. Full and angling in with width outside off stump, Smith leans forward, drives just in front of point and beats the man at cover-point
Jadeja to Brook, 1 run, full and on the stumps, Brook leans forward and drives to long-on. 12th Test fifty for Brook. He struggled against Bumrah in the last over yesterday. Put on a bold face today morning and took on Bumrah
Thakur to Jamie Smith, FOUR, he's found the gap! Full and just outside off, Jamie Smith stepped out and dragged it across, was off the inner half and it went in between mid-on and mid-wicket
Thakur to Jamie Smith, no run, overturned! Good review from Smith in the end, he'll be glad that isn't the way he departs. Full and tailing into the stumps, Smith had shuffled down the pitch looking to whip it away and it hit his front pad on the full, umpire Chris Gaffaney thought about it and raised the finger. Nothing on UltraEdge, impact in line but just about missing the base of leg-stump!
Jadeja to Brook, FOUR, to deep mid-wicket
Siraj to Stokes, out Caught by Pant!! Siraj has got the England captain. He roars and says come onnn! Stokes knows he's played a bad shot. Throws his bat up in disappointment, catches and clutches it between his jaw and chest as he walks back. Stokes c Pant b Siraj 20(52) [4s-3]
Siraj to Brook, FOUR, steps out and lofts it over the infield. Man catching at silly mid-off to stop him from pushing down the ground. But by advancing and smashing the ball he wants to put fear in that fielder standing so close. This is a great counterresponse the strategy from India. This one sat up nicely to be smacked on the rise and Brook obliged, hitting over wide mid-off
Siraj to Stokes, FOUR, edged and into the gap! Good length delivery on off-stump, Stokes

Bumrah to Stokes, no run, Stokes flashes and misses! First one he's gone after, pitched up fuller and wider outside off, Stokes went hard looking to go through cover and missed. He's 3 off 20, probably under a bit of artificial pressure to live up to Bazball standards
Prasidh to Brook, FOUR, deft touch! Short of a length on off-stump, Brook stood tall and just used the pace to run it into the third man region, Siraj was down at deep backward point and had no chance
Prasidh to Pope, out Caught by Pant!! Edged and taken! This is exactly what India needed, not just the wicket but someone other than Bumrah proving that they can take them as well! Short and wide outside off, Pope's eyes lit up and he slashed hard looking to cut, just a bit of extra bounce and nip meant that it caught a healthy outside edge through to Pant. The centurion departs after adding just 6 runs to his overnight tally.
Prasidh to Brook, SIX, that's incredible from Brook! He's setting the tone for England in the very first over of the day! Just a fraction short on off-stump, Brook hung back and just picked it up off a length and dunked it 20 rows deep over the mid-wicket ropes
