IND vs NZ, 1st Test: Commenting on the intriguing yet satisfying experience of the 8-wicket victory against India in the first Test at Bengaluru, New Zealand skipper Tom Latham says it has been an achievement of historical magnitude. It is their first win in India since 1988, and Tom Latham is elated with the triumph.

“It was very tough,” Latham said after the game. He hailed his side’s robustness, particularly after bowling India out for just 46 in the first innings. “There have been several teams that have struggled here over time. So finally to get this win is a special feeling to us.”

Key Partnerships Fuel Victory

He located that important 137-run partnership between Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee for the 8th wicket, which significantly bolstered New Zealand’s first innings. “That partnership was massive for us,” he said. “If someone had told us we’d be chasing 100 on day five, I would have gladly accepted that.”

The same player Rachin Ravindra won the “Man of the Match” award for his contributions of 134 and 39 not out as Latham described his performances as pivotal. “His composure in such a tense situation was impressive for a young player,” he noted. “He’s shown remarkable talent over the last year, and we’re fortunate to have him.” ends.

Latham conceded New Zealand had got the better of the day when Rohit Sharma chose to bat first, going with the conditions that favored pace bowlers. He said, “We were ready to bat as well, but luck played in our favor today”.

On pitch conditions, he said, “You need to assess whether it’s going to be a bit harder batting on day one or day five.” “The pitch deteriorated, and cracks started to open, making it tricky for batters,” he explained while explaining how he tried to handle India’s great resilience.

Pursuing a target of 107 wasn’t that easy, and New Zealand faced a real second-innings test. However, Latham credits his seamers for the really good work, especially with the new ball, that kept India on their toes. “We felt that India would come back strong, so our bowlers needed to ask tough questions, and they delivered.”

Team Dynamics And Injury Updates

New Zealand won without their senior batting: the injured absence of Kane Williamson meant they had to depend on others, for they made 281 without losing a wicket. For that, they could thank Will Young, who scored a half-century not out, sealing New Zealand’s win against England. Now comes the question of selection for the next Test as Latham has a pressing problem on his hands.

Nothing so far on Kane, and we will discuss this in 24-48 hours. If he is fit enough to come back, that will do a world of good for the team. Selection headaches are a positive issue to have.
