‘He Made Batting Look So Much Harder’: Ricky Ponting Goes Gaga Over Jasprit Bumrah

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting heaped praise for Jasprit Bumrah's performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and stated that he made batting look very difficult.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah had a blast during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and picked up 32 wickets at an average of under 14. Bumrah proved to be a nightmare for the Australian batters, however, he was the lone performer for the Indian team which resulted in Australia winning the BGT 2024-25 by 3-1. Bumrah ended up achieving the record of picking up most wickets in an away Test series and broke the record of former Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi. On the other hand, he also became the fastest Indian pacer to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket.

Ricky Ponting Praises Jasprit Bumrah

Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah and stated that it is probably the best series of fast bowling he has ever seen. Ponting admitted that the conditions were superior for the fast bowlers but watching Bumrah bowl made batting so much hard. He said to ICC, “No doubt, it’s probably the best series of fast bowling I’ve ever seen. Yes, they had good conditions, the fast bowlers, for most of this series.”

He added, “But when you watched him (Bumrah) bowl compared to anyone else in the series, he made batting look so much harder. There’s a lot of quality batting in that Australian top-order as well but he made all of them at different times look silly.”

The Indian team lost the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy series after 2017. Team India was also knocked out from the World Test Championship helping Australia qualifying for the summit clash against South Africa.
