In the fourth day of the Lord’s Test, reserve wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who was keeping in the absence of injured regular wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, took the same ploy that Jamie Smith had taken while the Indians were batting. That is, position oneself close to the stumps and harass the batsmen. Jamie benefited directly from this, and so did Jurel. It was due to Dhruv coming up that Harry Brook played an unconvincing shot, and he got bowled. Dhruv Jurel impressed a lot by being near the wicket against pacers, but Indian Under-19 junior wicketkeeper Mohan Chaturvedi, who was in the news once for his keeping, has stated that there are several points to improve upon about Jurel’s keeping.

Chaturvedi said, “Dhruv took an effective decision by coming up and keeping against the pacers, but he was catching all the balls on the side. Also, he was collecting the balls away from the body, what happens with this technique is that if the outer or inner edge of the bat hits, then the chances of the ball being missed are high.” Mohan Chaturvedi’s point proved to be correct to a great extent, when the first ball of Akash Deep after lunch took the outer edge of Root’s bat, but Dhruv could not catch it. The only relief for him was that the umpire declared it a no-ball.
“The biggest flaw in Dhruv’s technique is that his right hand is not completely behind the ball. That is why the ball does not come in the middle of his palm or he stays away from the ball. Often his gloves close before collecting the ball.’ The former wicketkeeper said, ‘Dhruv will have to work hard on these aspects as soon as possible. Also, Dhruv will have to work on coming completely behind the ball and catching it in the middle of the body. The sooner he works on these aspects, the more he will benefit,” Chaturvedi added.

No one has any doubt that by runs on the fourth day were extremely high. The reason was primarily because Dhruv continued trying to hold the ball with the help of his thumb while standing. And the ball continued to move away from him. A big majority of people also appeared to be impressed by him, but that was the reaction prior to lunch. Post-lunch, the remarks about Dhruv were different.
