‘The Most Difficult To Tour’: Tim Southee Names Two Teams That Are Tough To Tackle

Tim Southee, who is currently a part of New Zealand squad for three natch Test series against India mentioned about two toughest teams to play against.

Former New Zealand captain Tim Southee shared his thoughts after his team’s test series win in India; it was a historic test series victory for New Zealand cricket. The series was of a kind because, for the first time ever, the Kiwis won all their games on Indian turf, and they dominated home side in both Bengaluru and Pune. Tom Latham’s team halted India’s streak of 18 consecutive home Test series wins that dated back to 2012. Neither of the great teams – since Australia, England, or South Africa in a decade – had ever come close to breaking this sequence of consecutive home Test series victories till now.

Touring India And Australia The Toughest

New Zealand’s batting and bowling performances on the swinging and turning pitches can become a guide for other teams to challenge India at home. Touring India and Australia is the hardest for any cricket team, according to Southee. He further went on to mention that he is proud to be part of a team that showed India is not invincible at home. Reflecting on the past, he said playing India has always been tough. He remembers his early performances against such legends as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman for the first time in 1998 when he visited the country.

“Yeah, I think you just look at the history. What is it, 12 years that someone’s been able to do and 18 series or whatever it is. It’s a very, very tough place to come. I think if you look at it from my perspective and the cricket I’ve played in the past however many years, I think you look at India and Australia are the two places that are probably the most difficult to tour. Both the conditions, the quality of the opposition and how good they are at home makes it a tough place to tour,” Southee told Cricbuzz.

Tim Southee Feels Nice To Be On Winning Side

“But I think you look at this one in particular, 12 years, 18 series. It’s nice to be that side that’s broken that run. I guess it shows to other teams around the world that it is possible to beat India in India,” he added.

“I guess one of the first things that comes to mind is – tough. It is tough. For us, coming from New Zealand, the conditions are so foreign. I think every time you come here, you’re playing against a superstar outfit. I think you look back to that 2010 team, they’re like Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman, Dhoni. Like, as a young guy, to be able to come over here and play against those guys was a dream come true,” Southee elaborated.
