Glenn Maxwell’s Poor Performance In IPL 2024 & 2025

In the past two seasons of IPL, Maxwell could not even reach the 100-run barrier in 16 matches for two franchises. In IPL 2024, he produced a meager 32 runs in the first six matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru before deciding to sit out of the playing eleven. When he came back, things did not improve much he scored merely 21 runs from the next four matches. RCB eventually released him prior to the 2025 season. In spite of his lackluster performance, Punjab Kings gambled with Maxwell, signing him for INR 4.2 crore at the mega auction, hoping for his otherwise imperious record in international cricket. Yet, his IPL 2025 season has played out on familiar lines a paltry 41 runs at 8.20 in six games, and spin bowling laying bare huge weakness in his game.

Cheteshwar Pujara Opines About Maxwell’s Poor Form

Cheteshwar Pujara, giving his honest opinion, commented that Maxwell’s body language and shot choice reflect a nonchalant attitude towards batting, which might be his undoing.

“The way he bats hasn’t changed much,” Pujara said. “He hasn’t changed the way he has approached the IPL. There have been times where he’s been a little casual. He’s the same what he was maybe eight-ten years ago. I’m a little critical, but there are times where as a player you need to wake up,” Pujara said on ESPNCricinfo T20 Time Out.

Pujara Labels Maxwell’s Approach As “Little Casual”

“You need to realise you’re getting an opportunity to play and be part of a franchise where things are at stake. And there are times a player can get casual, they’re not worried about what’s happening. I’m sure he wants to perform but when you’re not performing there’s a fine line of being causal and just trying to pull up your socks and trying to perform. He has to find that balance, if there was any other player he would’ve been out of the XI, but because he’s Maxwell he’s getting that opportunity,” Pujara added.
