With Chennai Super Kings sitting at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table after eight matches, head coach Stephen Fleming is optimistic, taking a cue from one season in the past. Before their must-win encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Fleming stressed that his team hopes to learn from Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s comeback last season, when they made a stellar comeback to make it to the playoffs. RCB had won only one of their initial eight matches in IPL 2024 and were relegated to the bottom, their playoff hopes had almost ended but they revived by winning all their remaining six games and coming in at fourth place and gaining a playoff entry.
CSK Draws Inspiration From RCB
“We’re still hopeful of winning 6 out of 6, and some will giggle at that, but RCB set a blueprint for that the year before,” Fleming said
“So while there’s still a chance, we have one eye on making sure that we think the best players for this game coming up will play, but we’re also aware that if it doesn’t work out, that we’ve got to make the most of what has been a poor season,” the CSK head coach added.

Do Or Die Situation For CSK
Chennai has so far had a difficult season, and now they have to win all their remaining six games if they are to remain in the race. In spite of the difficult scenario, there’s optimism in the squad, even though Fleming did admit that the team is also planning for the worst-case scenario, that the comeback may not occur. He also made sure that the team is playing each game as vital and not a dead rubber, indicating their intent to battle until the very end.

“There won’t be a wasted game or an opportunity in the next few weeks, and the players know that as well. And that creates opportunity and creates a bit of competition within. We won’t let any time go to waste,” said Fleming.
