Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh was full of praise for team captain Shreyas Iyer after their convincing seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur. The win not only bolstered their momentum but also guaranteed PBKS a top-two spot on the IPL points table, securing their place in Qualifier 1.
Speaking during the post-match press conference, Shashank emphasized the positive changes Iyer has brought to the team environment since assuming captaincy.
“Shreyas is a very close friend – I’ve known him for over a decade,” Shashank shared. “Honestly, playing under his leadership has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.”
He highlighted Iyer’s inclusive and empowering leadership style, noting that the captain’s influence extends beyond just the starting eleven.
“He gives freedom to everyone – not just to the players, but to all 25 squad members, including the support staff, media, logistics, and content teams. That kind of respect and inclusivity is really rare and admirable,” Shashank said.
The batter also credited both Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting for fostering a strong, unified team culture within the PBKS setup.
“The environment Ricky Sir and Shreyas have created is something we truly value. There’s a strong sense of togetherness and mutual care. That’s the core philosophy they’ve instilled in us,” he explained.
“They always say that if we look after one another and focus on the team culture, the results will naturally follow,” he added.
Under Iyer’s guidance, Punjab Kings have transformed into a well-balanced and tightly-knit unit this season. As they head into the playoffs, Iyer will be eyeing his second IPL title – this time with a team that clearly believes in his vision.
